Happy Wednesday, friends! This week has flown by, and as I sit here writing this I am trying to remember what happened. There wasn’t anything abnormal, but I do feel like I’m not sure where the week went. It may have something to do with the fact I stayed up way past my bedtime Friday night and then took all weekend to recover, haha. The weather here has also been absolutely gorgeous, so we’ve been spending a significant portion of our days outside soaking up the sun. Plus, the flower garden we planted is starting to bloom!
This past week was also the first week I picked up a book of any kind for this month. I know, I know, it’s shocking. I haven’t really wanted to read much, and I finally accepted that I might be in the midst of a little reading slump. Usually when I am in the middle of a reading slump I pick up a book by Agatha Christie and she gets me back on track. That didn’t work this time as I was in the moodiest of moods to dnf. Whomp whomp. Instead, I attempted to read Elle Cosimano’s newest release, Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice. I’m not sure it quite pulled me out of my slump, but I did finish it! And I did enjoy it. The capers of Finlay and her sidekick Vero (mixed with a little romance) often seem to be just the palette cleanser I need. Over the weekend I was able to finish the book selected for my bookclub, Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi. We had a great discussion last night, and I really appreciated the tension the author presented between faith and science.
What do you do when in the middle of a reading slump? Ideas I’ve heard include reading a favorite author, reading something way outside your comfort zone, switching up genres, or reading a favorite. I’m not sure if I’m fully out of this slump yet or not. I’ll keep you updated though, and hopefully I’ll have a stellar read to finish out the month!
